Each April the Ringkobing Fjord in Denmark sees schools of herring swim into its protected waters.

This, in turn attracts fisherman from all over Scandinavia to the tiny village of Hvide Sande.

And as these fishermen were partial to a little competition so the Herring Festival was born.

It's an obscure one, but if you're into Herring or in the area, get a taste of Scandinavia's finest  herrings - pickled, fried or ground into fishcakes.
