As stated by JR, the famous French photographer and street artist. JR an abbreviation for Jean-Rene, describes himself as a photograffeur. His signature pieces are large black-and-white photographic images in public locations, crossing social, political, and religious borders to make bold statements worldwide.

JR's work has appeared in cities and communities across the globe. Landmark projects have transformed public spaces in Paris, Rio de Janeiro, New York City, Berlin, Shanghai, Havana, Los Angeles, Istanbul, and Bethlehem, among many others. His installations can be found throughout France, Brazil, Italy, Mexico, Germany, Spain, China, Cuba, Kenya, India, Israel, Japan, Canada, and the United States, demonstrating the universal power of photography to connect people across cultures and borders.

Among JR's most influential bodies of work are Face 2 Face, created along the border between Israel and the West Bank; Women Are Heroes, honouring women in communities across Brazil, India, Kenya, Cambodia, Liberia, Sierra Leone, and France; The Wrinkles of the City, installed in cities including Cartagena, Havana, Los Angeles, Shanghai, and Istanbul; the global Inside Out Project, which has inspired participatory public art in more than 150 countries; and Chronicles, a series of large-scale photographic murals produced in cities such as New York, San Francisco, Miami, and Clichy-Montfermeil, France.
