The Cascate del Mulino waterfalls at Terme di Saturnia are among Tuscany's most iconic natural attractions. Located in southern Tuscany, Italy, these extraordinary thermal springs cascade over white travertine rock, creating a series of naturally formed pools that have been shaped over thousands of years.

Flowing at a constant temperature of around 37.5°C (99°F), the mineral rich waters have attracted visitors since Roman times. Rich in sulphur, calcium and other minerals, the springs are renowned for their therapeutic properties and are believed to help improve circulation, soothe tired muscles and support healthy skin, making Terme di Saturnia one of Italy's most celebrated natural thermal spa destinations.

There are three main bathing experiences, all fed by the same natural thermal spring:

La Sorgente, The Natural Spring - Located within the Terme di Saturnia Resort. This is the original spring where the thermal water emerges after its underground journey. Access is through the resort or its premium club.

Parco Termale, The Thermal Park - Also part of the resort, this features five large, landscaped thermal pools. While these are man made pools, they are continuously supplied with fresh natural spring water from the source.

Cascate del Mulino, Waterfalls of the Mill - These are the famous natural travertine pools seen in most photographs. After emerging at the spring and flowing through the resort, the water travels about 2 km across the countryside before cascading over the travertine rock, where it has naturally formed the terraces and pools over thousands of years.

The history of Terme di Saturnia stretches back thousands of years. Long before it became a renowned spa destination, the thermal springs were revered by the Etruscans and later the Romans, who recognised their therapeutic qualities and developed early bathing areas around the natural source. Over time, the mineral rich waters also shaped the landscape, gradually forming the distinctive white travertine terraces seen today.

Today, Terme di Saturnia remains one of Italy’s oldest and most celebrated wellness destinations, where history and nature come together in a truly remarkable setting.

While the iconic Cascate del Mulino are natural, the nearby Terme di Saturnia Resort also features beautifully designed thermal pools and spa facilities, all continuously fed by the same mineral rich spring. Visitors can choose between a wild bathing experience in nature or a more luxurious wellness retreat.

Whether you're soaking beneath the cascading waterfalls or admiring the picturesque Tuscan countryside, Terme di Saturnia is an extraordinary, unforgettable experience that blends natural beauty, history and wellness. It's a destination that invites you to slow down, reconnect with nature and experience one of Italy's most extraordinary geothermal wonders. The Terme di Saturnia tells a unique story, beyond the postcard.
